The Hatter and The Hare

Date: August 2019

Coming straight off the show, this was the first popup that I did. I did this one with Monica Mignone, another contestant from MasterChef Season 11. The Hatter and the Hare is one of Monica’s locals, a restaurant which offers a gastronomical experience you can only describe as wonderful, whimsical & magical. Not only is the food amazing here, the restaurant itself has decorations which change every quarter. It is a sight to be seen and definitely worse a visit in Melbourne.

We put together a menu which included flavours that we both enjoy, working with the Head Chef to really take them to the next level.

The menu (which was paired with Jacob’s Creek win included:
Kingfish Ceviche with Coconut and Kaffir lime
Pork and Prawn Wontons with Chilli Oil & Szechuan Sauce (Derek’s winning Mystery Box dish)
Crispy Pork Belly with Chilli Caramel & Asian Slaw
Sticky Masterstock-Glazed Beef Brisket with Rice and Charred Bok Choy
Coconut Panna Cotta with Mango Gel, Lime Curd & Salted Macadamia Crumb (Monica’s signature audition dish).

Over two nights, all in all, there were over 1,600 plates served, countless of glasses of wine drunk, and hundreds of photos taken and many laughs shared by everyone. Thank you for the team at The Hatter and the Hare, the amazing kitchen team and floor staff that worked together to deliver a smooth sailing service this this pop-up event. And also thank you to all the guests who joined on both nights and made every second of it worth all the sweat and tears!
